DAF Truck Specialists

The Problem

The HTC Group brings expertise to the haulage and distribution world for road transport, trailer manufacturing, vehicle and construction equipment sales and supportive services to the road transport industry. HTC Heathrow is the headquarters and the largest of the dealerships in the HTC Group.
We were asked to install our Amplifi-Qx solution at the Heathrow head office and 3 additional DAF Truck sites; HTC Hemel Hempstead, HTC Oxford and HTC Belvedere.
The buildings at each of the sites are large metal clad structures with very poor mobile signal. This was causing a huge problem as all of their corporate mobile phones were on the Vodafone network. Communication issues were impacting production and health and safety was a continued concern.

The SOLUTION

INSTALLATION CHALLENGES​

Each of the sites are open 24/7 and our engineering team had to work around trucks that were being serviced. Additional planning was required for each of the sites to ensure that all health and safety procedures were followed.

The Chosen Solution

Our Amplifi-Qx Digital product was used for each site which included CEL-FI QUATRA 1000 boosters.

We used CAT6 cabling throughout which was placed inside the false ceilings. HTC Oxford, HTC Hemel Hempstead and HTC Belvedere required 3 internal coverage units each and HTC Heathrow required 4 internal coverage units.

The Result

Significant improvement throughout

Signal comparisons are taken throughout the building at the end of every installation to measure the difference between the original signal readings and the new improved boosted signal. We were delighted with the new results at each of the HTC sites, recording full 3G and 4G coverage on the Vodafone network.

Immediate results

The staff were able to make and receive calls and SMS messages. The managers for each site commented on how much easier it was to communicate with other areas of the business, with one team member commenting that previously she would have to walk out of the building to make and receive calls, but is now able to communicate easily within the building.

Signal reading comparison

We use professional signal testing equipment to take dBm readings (decibel milliwatts) – we then compare these to the pre-install readings to calculate the increase in mobile signal. A really good dBm reading will be somewhere between -70dBm and -90dBm … the closer to zero the better!
